What’s the difference? I support that the Feds should have some diplomatic way to unify the USA, but tax should NOT be amongst their resources.
The States originally had the right to decide that, or have we forgotten the Constitution? Or do you all consider it invalid these days??!!

Yes. I’ve read a lot about the Fair Tax and am all for it. It would be the fairest way to tax all of us and no more loop holes. It makes perfect sense!
Contrary to what many will say, the poor will not be poorer.

I don’t know to be quite honest. That’s such a radically different tax method. The potential for disaster is so great, especially considering our economy is under strains as it is. Maybe in the future, we could try it out… I really need to learn more about it though. I want to see hardcore, double checked evaluations and estimates and projections before we even think about it.

I heard for the first time today that some prominent dems are now in favor of the fair tax, and are waiting for 2010,when they think they will have all the power to put it up for vote and try to get it passed……..
yea surprised me too,

No I am not in favor of a value added tax. Those who think this would do away with the IRS are simply mistaken. It will merely shift their duties to enforcing, and collecting this tax. If you don’t believe me just ask the British how they feel about the Inland Revenue.

100% in favor of a national sales tax as long as the constitution is changed to eliminate the income tax

I’m a flat tax man. Too easy to hide VAT and sales taxes. Those would require I trust the government. I’m not a tinfoiler, but I know crooks when I see them.

I would love it,but the fact that the top 10 percent pay most of the taxes, would make the plan fail. The poor would then have to start paying taxes. Not retirement but state and fed through the national sales tax. Taxes they don’t pay now. The poor use more tax money than any other group but pay less than every body else..

the national sales tax will hurt the poor since the poor pays zero income taxes right now. any increase in taxes on the poor will hurt them.. i am all for eliminating the federal income tax but you have to CUT SPENDING. you can’t just eliminate the income tax and not cut spending. but you have to cut entire departments not just programs.
we have over 750 military bases worldwide outside the US. why? why are we paying to defend over 130 countries around the world. don’t say its for our security because we can attack anyone in the world from right here at home. if we need an invasion on the other side of the planet, an aircraft carrier can get them there in a week or less. as many troops as you need. we can strike any target with our subs and B1 bombers that take off from right here in america.
the irs brings in 1 trillion dollars per year. it costs us 1 trillion to operate our empire around the world.
i would also cut department of energy, labor and education just to get started.
for example, with the department of education, we spend at the federal level over 10k per child in the public school system. do you know what the average cost of a private school in america k-12 is? $7500.
now would you rather spend 10k per child and not get an education in our public schools or spend $7500 and actually receive one.
big government doesn’t work. never has, never will. big government can’t compete in the free market.

Yes, it’s called the Fair Tax Plan. It would be the biggest transfer of power from the government to the people in American history. Many of those in power **** this idea because they use the tax system to punish some people and reward others.

No. A straight sales tax will simply be passed down to the last buyer. Those wealthy enough will simply lease everything. Once again, the poor will bear the brunt of such a misguided way to keep the wealthy from paying taxes.
How about, anyone who makes over 10 million per year pays 50% tax. I know it will be hard on millionaires to scrimp by on a measley 5 million per year but there are people raising families on $20,000 a year.
The big joke behind the flat tax is rich people don’t buy anything that would be taxable.

The latest data from the Internal Revenue Service show that more than half of all federal individual income taxes—50.8 percent—are paid by the five percent of taxpayers who earn the most. In 1996, the latest year for which data are available, this top five percent consisted of 6.0 million earners whose adjusted gross incomes (AGI) were higher than $101,202.
Even among this prosperous group, the highest earners paid the lion’s share. The top one percent of earners in the country are paying close to a third of all the taxes collected. That’s approximately 1.2 million earners who paid 32.3 percent of 1996′s federal individual income taxes

It’s time for a fair tax (fairtax.org) There’s so much to this plan that I don’t want to go into it here. Just head to the website and do a little research on it. It’s easy, straightforward, and comprehensive.
