Real Estate Agent Discouraging Purchase of Short Sales?

He states that they rarely become closed and go into escrow and that it is better to wait until they become foreclosed. Is he correct or am I missing something? I am familiar with what a short sale is, but if someone with short sale buying experience could share, it would be greatly appreciated.

How do part time real estate agent make money when their not selling homes?
